Hillsboro is home to Oregon’s largest air show, and it is the largest civilian air show on the west coast. The Hillsboro air show has an annual attendance around 65,000 with the largest being over 296,000 in its second year in 1989.
Hillsboro Fact #2:
Hillsboro has been home for not one, not two, but three Olympic medal winners. Josh Inman and Thomas Garrigus were born in Hillsboro and Jean Saubert taught elementary school in Hillsboro after her Olympic competition days.
Hillsboro Fact #3
Hillsboro was once home to the second largest radio tower in the world, after France’s Eiffel Tower. The tower cost $300,000 to build and stood 626 feet tall.
The Hillsboro Tower was able to send telegraph signals to Europe and Asia.
The tower was eventually torn down in 1952.
